Lan drops and erro 0xc0000017

For some reason my windows xp pro (sp2) has started dropping all lan
connections after about 4 hours, at this point trying anything will usually
give me an error 0xc0000017 and a message saying unable to initialise
application. This includes task manager.

I cant see any logs in the event log to suggest any major problems. Reboot
and everything is fine again.

Any ideas would be great.

For What It's Worth, I also have XP pro (sp2) and am having almost the same
problem:
Basically, a message saying unable to initialise application with error
0xc0000017, and /or just "insufficient resources" after leaving PC with no
activity for ~ 6 hours , after the DSL cable was disconnected manually.

It has similarities to your problem as well as to the posted problem
"unknown software exception" of 9/17/2005 in terms of low virtual memory and
error 0xc0000017 only-- However, absolutely no issues with scan, and no alien
svchost running from outside system32 directory.
This box, as of late, takes ~ 6 minutes to reboot now ( granted a lot of
applications, and a P-III with 768 Mbytes RAM-- yet over 2GB virtual memory
available to it) but the above behaviour is still unreasonable...
I did tested performance under a new user profile, also as Admin, but it is
also giving ~ 6 minutes boot-time too.
I can live with the 6 minutes boot-time -- provided I resolve the virtual
memory drainage requiring frequent re-boots.
Any ideas would be great, too.!! Thanks

I have a NAV fully protected PC, with windows firewall on, and continuously
updated with Windows patches and outlook security patches. Rarely ever I do
peer-2-peer sharing. I did have a few rare instances of viruses which were
immediately eradicated via NAV. Yahoo anti-spy is also used to keep PC
clean,a s of recently

Furthermore -- I have today additionally tested a smooth disconnect from
the internet followed by re-boot, and then left the PC on stand-alone i.e.
without networking to the internet it , and confirmed the PC retained its
virtual memory okay during this standalone 13 hour period.
Now this problem seems almost confirmed as similar to that described by
Adrian Brown above.

It seems to be something to do with the server here, it wasnt happening
until i connected the pc's to sbs 2003, now 2 of the pc's on the domain are
doing the same thing.
