Killing my XP

I am trying to salvage some files off a CD that is scratchy I have gottem
some but trying for others causes XP to die. I mean ctraltdel does not work
I have to power off to restart. below is my belarc profile. Sometime I
think MS should hire me as a tester, I get the strangest problems.

There is nothing unusual about a computer hanging up when it
starts stumbling across defective blocks in media. And this
may be a consequence of the scratched CD. Of course, if one
had enough patience, the device would eventually timeout and
Windows resume normal operation.

Your files are probably lost for ever.. if you are keeping backups, make
sure that they are good ones, and be careful re. storage of CD's..

One other thing.. the Belarc report that you have posted contains YOUR key
codes for YOUR Windows XP and MS Office installations.. not a good idea to
broadcast that information as it can be seen by any Usenet user..

Thanks for your help. My bad did not notice that belarc posted it.

I figure the data is lost but my problem still remains. I put a CD in and
it shows the directory, I click on a file to copy and it higlights it, I try
to copy it. My computer is unusable. How long do I wait before powering
off?? I have waited as long as 1/2 hour.

Your files are probably lost for ever.. if you are keeping backups, make
sure that they are good ones, and be careful re. storage of CD's..

One other thing.. the Belarc report that you have posted contains YOUR key
codes for YOUR Windows XP and MS Office installations.. not a good idea to
broadcast that information as it can be seen by any Usenet user..

Go to a music or department store and get a CD scratch
removal kit. I've restored a number of my kid's CDs this way.
Takes a little time, but they work.

Try using toothpaste. Just as effective!

Do you have a particular brand in mind?.. do the stripes make the CD more
peppy after repair?.. Is regular paste better than the 'gel' types?.. is the
process quicker if you use something like Arm & Hammer Extra Whitening?..

Toothpaste can also be used to get scratches out of watch faces, although
the 'cutting paste' type auto chrome cleaner works best.. please don't try
to use the auto chrome cleaner type on CD's at home, folks..

After using toothpaste, I prefer to rinse
my CDs in minty Scope to ward off
CD breath. Yuck!.
