Kickstart 2.09 works off of my Windows XP drive

At least I can play Heretic wads with it. I have not tried my other wads
like for Doom, Doom II, etc. I just assume those would play as well.

I have not tried to install Kickstart on my Vista installation though.

I don't see a way to edit my post so I have to reply to it.

It's been a while since I downloaded and installed the "Kickstart" software
so I had forgotten that it is known on the internet as the "Doomsday Engine".
It comes in a package called jdoom resources, jheretic resources, etc. and
can be downloaded from SourceForge.net, and the Doomsday home web site.

According to SourceForge, Doomsday is a "Windows/Unix/Mac OS X source port
of Doom, Heretic and Hexen. Lets you enjoy the original games using modern
technology. Supports e.g. OpenGL, Direct3D, DirectSound3D, 3D models,
unlimited framerate, high-resolution graphics, simulated radiosity."

Don't know if I allowed to post urls here so just do a Google search for
Doomsday Engine and it should come up with the home page of the utility with
lots of helpful information.

Most games work on Vista but some installers and copy protections may need
special attention such as trying the compatibility mode.

How should I read this? You tested the program on plain XP, XP->Vista
upgrade or? This is Vista newsgroup.

Well, people have been saying the old DOS games such as Doom and Heretic do
not play in Vista EVEN with the compatibility mode so I thought I would post
a way they COULD play those games in Vista.

I have XP on one partition and Vista on another partition. Doomsday Engine
(Kickstart) is already installed on my XP partition. I am able to
double-click on the Kickstart shortcut icon ON MY XP partition when I am
booted into VISTA and play the old DOS games WITHIN Vista.

I just thought that SOME people who really really like to play the old DOS
games would like to know this so they could play the old DOS games right
inside Vista.

I have not bothered to install Doomsday Engine right into Vista to see if it
works.

This "compatibility" mode in Vista has only worked ONCE on anything I have
tried it on so I think it's a myth that it actually works (JMHO).

Please let me know if you need further clarification. :)
