Keyboard stopped working

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1.3GHz on which there is no support (only
telephonists who are paid to tell every user to reinstall the OS whenever
they get any problems). My keyboard has stopped working. If I try to use
it, it freezes the keyboard and internal mouse. I can then plug in a USB
mouse but cant get the internal touchpad working until I reboot. (The XP on
screen keyboard in accessories works fine)

Does anyone know how to identify and uninstall the keyboard drivers (I cant
ask Toshiba if they are special keyboard drivers for this internal keyboard)
if I dare uninstall them and install the standard Microsoft Intellitype
drivers from the http://www.Microsoft.com/hardware/keyboard/download.asp
site? The multimedia keyboard drivers designed by Toshiba for XP Home as
originally installed don't seem to get this keyboard to work in XP Pro and I
know that the keyboard DOES work as it was working just before I uninstalled
a hotfix (and it didn't reinstall the backup it had made for this specific
purpose properly).

Is there a keyboard .inf file for the keyboard in XP Pro and what is it
called? Do I need to delete it before installing the new Microsoft drivers?
This does seem to be a windows problem in the registry as the keyboard does
work to (for example) do an F8 boot and to enter the product key in a repair
install so this is definitely not a hardware problem

Lastly I have got a 6 megabyte BACKUP.BKF backup file lying on my D drive
dated probably before the keyboard stopped working. I don't know if it some
backup of a registry or of some data which was automatically created some
time. Opening Microsoft Backup in Accessories, it seems to contain something
which was on two versions of a C drive, a D drive and a 'system state'
setting. It sounds about the size of a registry, - is this likely to
contain a working registry which I can use to restore the keyboard and
everything else which stopped working when I deleted this hotfix?

Then I am in big trouble: If the manufacturer is keeping this all a big
secret, how do I identify what the drivers my machine is using actually are?
Maybe I can find them elsewhere? Is it in the registry somewhere?

Access Device Manager. High and expand Keyboards and then select the
correct keyboard. Then, right click the mouser and selecl Properties.
Then, select "Driver Detail". This will list the keyboard files.

I have a similar problem with my keyboard on my VAIO PCG-SRX51P, I can't get
an aswer from Sony. MY cursor keys are all corrupted, including the enter
key. I have uninstalled and re-installed the driver several times. The
problem was solved once, everytime after that, the problem persists. Is
there a way to
re-install the driver from the disk, without the computer installing it
automatically? or
Is there a way to download
the driver from the windows site? My keyboard is a standard 101/102......
the worst is that the enter key is not working properly. Thanks in advance

The only driver necessary would be for special keys. The normal keys you are
having trouble with are taken care of in windows. Get a new keyboard. They
are cheap...

Thanks Woody, but your solution of getting another keyboard is not great as th
is is a very small laptop and I live in France, where I can't get QWERTY
keyboards. Any one else have any ideas please!!!!!!!!!!!
