Keyboard problem !

Hi,

my daughter's keyboard behaves bizarre on 3 keys : the ^ and ¨ key , the ~
key and the `key. All are keys that have to be hit first then the character
they apply to. When they are hit they instantly show the character in double
! Hence hitting the ^ key inserts directly ^^ ! Same for the trema, tlide
etc : directly double instead of nothing until the character is hit next as
for getting ô )

All other keys are OK.

Keyboard selected is belgian, as are regional codes and so on.

Any idea ?

I first thought that would be a default keyboard, but 3 keys are affected,
but of same nature !

Thanks all !

Check your input language (control panel, regional & language, language,
details) .. doesn't sound as if it is matched with the keyboard. You are
seeing the exact inverse of what happens to Americans when they select
'international English' as input language on a USA keyboard - they have
to type '~~' to get a single ~.

btw, have you tried a different (Belgian) keyboard on this machine?

Found ! There is a process loaded called bfld.exe ( don't know what it is,
wher it comes from ....) that does it : once removed the keyboard behaves
normally !
Wow ... These accents are much used here in french !
Thanks anyway for your efforts !

Glad to hear it. Bfld.exe is =not=, afaict, part of WinXP, so you might
want to go run a full virus and spyware scan on that system
(www.security.kolla.de, for spybot S&D; www.lavasoftusa.com for ad-aware
6) just in case that jolly little program was saving all the keystrokes
and sending them off to some hacker somewhere.

I assume you tried locating the .exe file with 'search', and then right
clicking it and seeing if its properties made any admission about who
wrote it and why?

Not sure about the Belgian layout, but this happens with the 'US
International' one, and is intentional: it allows the typing of accented
characters using these dead keys. So for example, type ' then e and
get é or type ' then c and get ç A second stroke on the dead key,
or a key it does not 'go with', like space or d, gives you the expected
symbol.
