KEYBOARD LOGIN LOCK OUT

After an automatic update one day, my keyboard started to lock out logins,
unless I hold down the shift key for about 5-10 seconds. It beeps while I
hold down the shift key and then makes something closer to a whistle sound.
After that it will accept CTL+ALT+DEL and then my login. Any clue why and
how can I make it stop?

You may try to see what is happening with an other keyboard, in order to
locate the error.
