Keyboard doesn't work

I have Vista home premium. The keyboard quits working during bootup, either
usb or ps2. OSK works fine. This happened after a virus infection. I can boot
with a cd WinPE and it works so it isn't a hardware problem. I not sure where
to go from here. Also, I cannot open user accounts, all others cpl's I can.
What was possibly changed in the registry? I checked for rootkits and viruses
and it is clean. Any thoughts.
Your comments are appreciated.

Apparently the (unnamed) virus infection damaged your operating system. This
is common.

1. Back up your data using your Bart's or a Linux Live CD, etc.
2. Try Vista's version of a Repair Install:

3. If #2 doesn't work, do a Clean Install/Factory Restore of Vista.

To bad that there isn't an answer to this and that you have to go to such an
extreme.
Well I will give the upgrade a try. I am going to backup the hard drive first.
Note: to bad the upgrade only works if windows vista is running. If it had a
problem booting at all, the upgrade option is disabled. :( This was one of
XP's shining star, that it could be repaired and the recovery was complete.
Thank you for your suggestion, I will let you know how it turns out.

Too bad that you weren't careful in your computing and infected your
machine. There *was* an answer to this; you just didn't like it. Here are

Well, after doing the upgrade install, the keyboard is disabled during the OS
load process. Any thoughts on this?

Thank you for your reply.
