Keeping task pane open

Is there a way to keep the task pane open after clicking
on it to open a new workbook?

When I click on a recently opened file on the task pane
the file opens but the task pane disappears. I type
ctrl+F1 to get it back open but is there a setting or
tweak to keep the task pane open all the time?

Thank you

Normally, the New Workbook Task Pane closes as soon as you select a
template or workbook. A workaround that I've used to keep it open:

1. At the top of the Task Pane, click the 'Other Task Panes'
dropdown arrow.
2. Select one of the Task Panes, e.g. 'Search'.
3. Go back to the 'Other Task Panes' dropdown, and select 'New Workbook'

After you select a workbook to open, the Task Pane should stay open, and
will display one of the other Task Panes.
