keep losing printer

D

Dan

I'm running a Dell with 256 MB RAM, 2.4mhz processor, XP Home with SP1 and
all critical updates. I have an HP Photosmart P1000 printer. When I boot
up, I get a message that says "hphpm09.exe failed to load". Then it says to
click on the yellow triangle icon for more info. I do that and it tells me
I've lost connectivity to the printer and asks if I want to reconnect. I
tell it yes but then get the same msg again. The drivers are the latest and
greatest.

Looking at device manager, there are 3 entries, and I don't understand why.

Dot4 HPH09 shows the Photosmart P1000 and says it's operating correctly.
Dot4Usb HPH09 shows the same thing.
Dot4Print HPH09 shows "1284.4 Compatible printer" and also says its
operating correctly.

If I right click on the printer entry under Dot4Usb HPH09 and disable it,
and then immediately re-enable it my printer comes back to life and all is
well. For a day or 2, but then it loses connectivity again and I start the
process all over.

I've uninstalled the drivers and then re-installed them, but it makes no
difference.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan
