Keep getting 154K virus worm emailing saying it is from Microsoft

H

Harry

I know it is not from Microsoft.

This is sent daily to my my Yahoo mail account making my account go over the
limit. Most go into the bulk folder but usually one or two get through.

Does anyone else have this problem? Am I being singled out for a malicious
attack or is this being mass mailed? Should Microsoft be notified about
these people impersonating an upgrade patch with a virus attached. Been
going on for over two week sometimes I get 15 to 20 per day.

I have notified support at Yahoo with no results except them saying not to
download it. If many are getting it, it seems like a law enforcement matter,
in my opinion.

How do you contact Microsoft to forward the counterfeit email with the virus
so they might investigate?

Please post an answer, I have left my email private.

There are literally millions of these floating around both email and
newsgroups. They keep morphing to slighly different subjects. Microsoft and
the Department of Justice are both well aware of the problem. I know
Microsoft spent a significant amount of time last week working on the
problem.

All you can do is:

1. Munge your email address in the newsgroups.
2. Never open unsolicited attachments
3. Delete the malware when you see it.

Almost *everybody* has this problem. Some people I know have been
getting hundreds an hour! It's the Swen worm, also known as Gibe-F, and
it scrounges e-mail addresses from a variety of locations on any
infected computer and mails itself to them. Trust me, Microsoft knows
about the worm.

Of course it is, and you may be sure there is an investigation in
progress. But it's not that easy to identify the originator of the
worm.

They have plenty of copies, believe me.

Yes. "Everybody" is having this problem.

Microsoft is well aware of the problem, and has posted many advisories.

If caught, the creators of viruses do face prosecution and jail time in the
USA and many other countries.

IMO, most the Internet Service Providers are doing very little to help their
paying subscribers. The first thing they should do is delete the
virus-laden message from *their* servers instead of passing it on to their
customers' junk mail folders, which fill up and then put the account over
limit. MSN.COM, are you listening?

you find one

It won't help you now, but do not post your real email address on the
newsgroups. If you notice, mine is munged to (e-mail address removed) which does not exist
anywhere. You can also do something like
(e-mail address removed)

I think that would be letting the malicious people win to stop those who
want to post their real email address. Perhaps, NOSPAM or something similiar
would be better. Elsewhere I have my real email address of Yahoo on the
newsgroups with no 'NOSPAM' or anything included with it. I have NEVER had
any trouble except now with this virus. The few went into the Bulk folder
that were easily emptied once a week a about twice a week I got a SPAM
through. This has all changed now, but having good private conversation from
newsgroups I am not going to let this one instance of this one virus stop
cut me off from newsgroup private discussion. (My email is not in this group
as I have only come in momentarily)

Could this be malicious Internet attack in the US from maybe those with
anti-American political agenda, perhaps originating from problem countries
or domestic? I would not be surprised to see Internet attacks from abroad
like this virus spamming.in the future.

How are they doing it? Are they sending through remailers?
