I was flashing the BIOS on this MB using EZ flash.
I tried following the steps in the manual to recover but the floppy
drive isn't seeking. I should have used a boot floppy!!
Anyone know of a place to order a new chip?

What Asus forgot to tell you is that some first version boards/bios even
if it's SE doesn't work with some older floppy drives. It will work only
after you flash it with a newer bios. To fix this you should have flashed
with a cd-rw drive. Apart from this mother of all bugs it's a rock solid
board.

Are you sure you can't boot at all ? and I'm quite sure this board has an
auto recovery bios. I'm not home now so I can't check it out.

The hard drive and cd drive lights stay on constantly and the screen
stays blank. Never heard of flashing with a cd-rw drive.
It says in the manual when it detects an invalid bios it will ask you
to insert a floppy or CD with the correct BIOS.
Ah do you think it might work if I try it with a CD with a bios on it.

Thought I would try it.
I burned a CD with the BIOS file on it.
I cleared the CMOS, then inserted the CD
and turned on the computer.
The CPU fan is turning but no drive activity
and the screen is blank.

wow, somehow that aint good. Your cd-rw is bottable right? if not goto
bootdisk.com Does the board's green light light up? unplug the power supply
and try taking the battery out overnight. Good luck.

The CD wasn't bootable. I'll try that tomorrow.
More info, stupid me didn't have the speaker plugged into the right port.
When I did that the voice says continually "system failed CPU test"
until I power off. I tried installing the CPU with same results.

Hi,

I've got the same error when I bought my K8V Se also.
The problem was because of the power supply (insufisant power during
start up). I had to change to new one (with more power, now 360W), and I
haven't any problem.

You may try disconnecting the more equipment you have (just keep one
memory DIMM, remove the hard drive and keep only the CD).

You may also try to START/STOP the system many times, it's very good for
the motherboard but it helps all capacitors to charge and then you have
less current at start up.

Marc.

JBM what's your psu anyway ?

It's a 510watt true power. I also tried a 550 watt supply.
I had the MB outside the case resting on an anti static bag.
When I raised it off the bag I didn't get the failed CPU message,
but the system still would not boot. And using a bootable CD
or floppy with the BIOS didn't either. I ordered a new BIOS
chip. If that doesn't work I'll RMA for repair to Newegg.
