What files can you safely eliminate in windows xp professiona
Is see folders and files in

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temporary Internet File
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Cookie
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE

Hi,

All of those, but reboot first just in case something is needed to complete
an installation. For the TIF's, use the "delete files" function under
Internet Options in the Control Panel, same goes for the cookies.

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp

Clear up using Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk
Cleanup
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

Can also be cleaned in Control Panel - Internet Options, click the
'Delete files' button
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Cookies

Can be deleted using explorer. But better do it using a third party
utility. The truly nasty ones will be cleaned by AdAware, but a lot of
cookies are for *your* benefit - for example one from Amazon.com
remembers about who you are so when you go to the site *it* logs you in,
rather than you having to do it manually
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

That is the actual structure of Temp Internet files, which uses a system
of subfolders and indexes to speed access. When viewed in Explorer it
is then displayed as if it were a simple folder. Empty Temp Internet
files as above and leave these subfolders and index.dat files alone
