June 18-desperate issue with . root Zone file on internal DNS

Hi,

We are having isssues where clients cannot connect to many
web sites and can connect to some of them with no problem.
Suddenly happened 2 days back. Our present DNS set up is
afollows.

Firewall-Primary DNS
WIN2k -Primary Domain Controller-Internaal DNS with a
forwarder set up pointing to firewall.

if I remember right the zone file called ./ should not
aappear in this set up. But now I see ./under the cached
lookups and I don't know what to do. Is my DNS functioning
right. I think it is behaving as a root server and not
forwarding. PLEASE WRITE BACK ASAP

Well, if the dot zone exists, then it won't forward. If the dot zone exists,
then someone must have installed that.

Keep in mind it depends on what view you;re loking at this at. If in
Advanced view, put it back into Standard View or you;re going to be totally
confused.

There were attacks a few days ago on the Akamai name servers that effected
some traffic to some major websites (Microsoft, Yahoo, etc), but it didn't
last too long. That was on Tues morning, EST.

If the root zone does indeed exist, rt-click on it, and delete it.

THe ROot zone looks like a period (a 'dot') and if it exists, the Forwarding
option would be grayed out anyway.
