JPEGS will not open

Hi all,

I work in an Windows XP/Office 2003 environment and I am having issues
opening JPEGs that are emailed to me from our art department. They are using
Adobe CS3. I understand there is a hot fix from Microsoft to solve this
(KB951678) and I ran this when I first started having this issue (5/2008).
Originally it worked and I was able to open JPEGs again. However, today I
noticed I am having the same issue again. I am back to the original problem
of not being able to open JPEGs from our art department. Is there something
else I can try or has this hot fix been updated? I searched online and I did
see questions from other users with the same problem but there were no
suggestions offered. If anyone has any useful advice on how I can solve this
(again), I would appreciate it.

Thanks!
LaurenM

State what happens when you try.

I get a message that reads "Preview not Available". The default program it
tries to open in is Windows Picture and Fax View. It also doesn't work if I
pick another viewing program. Could this issue be as a result of any MS
update released this month? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Brian.

Apparently while working with our Mac users, we discovered that when
emailing JPEGs internally make sure to change the attachment setting to
Windows (MIME/Base64). Once they do that, PC users can open the image
attachment can open successfully. This is interesting because the Mac users
did not have to do this after we ran the hotfix that was released in April
2008. Now we have to do this even though the hotfix is installed on our PC
machines. It is almost as if a recent MS update may cancelled out this
hotfix. Have you seen this behavior at all? Thank you for your response.

Thanks,
LaurenM

I've not seen the issue. If you uninstall the recent updates does the problem
resolve?

Hi Brian,

No, the issue does not resolve itself by uninstalling updates, which, I
guess would rule out an issue with any recent update. I am definitely stumped
with this one. If you can think of anything else we can try, I would greatly
appreciate it.

Thanks!
Lauren
