Jet Version Issue - Problems with Locate Record Button

Hi all

Sorry this could get a bit long, but I think the history is important.

We have a company database, originally constructed using Access 2000.
This is split with the front ends being almost entirely on XP boxes and the
back end being on Win2003 Server.

Many moons ago, when the clients were Win98 and NT and the back end was on
NT server we developed a problem.

Part of the function of our database is to control drawings and their issue
status etc.
The problem we found was that use of the Locate Record button (with
binoculars) caused unpredictable behavious of data in the main and
associated sub form.
The fix for this was found to be an upgrade to the Jet database engine to
Jet 4 SP2.5.

Having moved to XPSP2 and Office 2003 SP1, this problem appears to have
returned.
I have tried to upgrade to Jet 4 SP8 but when I do it says this feature is
already up to date. However when I go into the access help and query system
info, there are entries for Jet 2.x and Jet 3.x, but under Jet 4, the path
entry says not available!
Also, if I go to the immediate window in Access and enter ?dbengine.version
it returns 3.6.

I am not absolutely sure that the problem lies with the Jet version, but I
don't understand why version 4 does not seem to be available on a machine
with all the latest software!

Can anyone give me any pointers please?

TIA

Phil
