I have Java(TM) 6 Update 2 and Java(TM) 6 Update 3 in Add/Remove
programs list. Can I delete Update 2?

Also are entries for J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 etc the same as the
jre?

Thanks

All should be removed via the Control Panel applet "add/remove programs" and replaced with
v6
update 4.

Yes, you can. Java doesn't clean up after itself, and always leaves
the older version in place when you install a newer version.

jre?

Yes, again. These should also be removed.
