Java Applets/ Browser Does Not Support Java Applets

I did a bad thing...I think. I upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows XP Professional. Ever since then my husband cannot get on his Yahoo fantasy sports online drafts. His response is "It worked before you messed with it". I am a college student and neeed to upgrade to be compatable with school, now I ask...is XP Professional really worth it? A message pops up and says that your browser does not support java applets,or java is not enabled. It tells me to go to java.com to download java. I have done this two seperate times and it will not install. What gives ? I have to have this Java thing up and working by Wednesday 3-17-04 for the next online fantasy draft. Please, if someone out there can walk me through this I would really appreciate it. I need it in laymens terms and step by step.

You need to download and install a Java Virtual Machine. Try:
downloaded from http://java.sun.com
