japanese laptops

I want to buy a seconhand laptop ( or maybe a new one)
while i am in Japan.

But they all have japanese windows XP on them and i am an
australian who cant read Japanese!!!

If i buy one how difficult will it be to remove the
Japanese version of XP and install my own copy of windows
98 or a new copy of windows XP???

What other problems can i expect (apart from the plug
adapters and voltage transformers) when i return home to
australia and try to use my laptop in australia????

ALso, any advice on the brand of laptop? CPU? RAM? would
also be appreciated.

I'm sure their are plenty of places in Japan that sell
english versions of laptops, WAY too many tourist going
there to keep them only in their own language.
