When writing an email you often want to send the information to others but
just so that they are aware of what is going on. So by selecting them as a
FYI, the same as a CC or BCC, you could let them know of the information and
they would know that they are being included purely for their information and
that no action is required etc.
This would also help people organise mail as they could create rules based
on this.
