it takes it too much to open network drives

Hi.

I've got a 2003 domain with 10 PCs.

When the PCs try to open My Computer then it takes more than 50 seconds to
show the user the unit drives. If the user opens My Computer again then it
opens
faster, as any PC in other network.

But if the user doesn't open My Computer again and it does it later (for
example 10 minutes later) then it takes it too much to open again.

All computers have as primary dns the DC of the domain. The shared folders
are in that server, and in addition to this, I have set in the hosts file
the ip address of the server too (so that, the problem can't be caused by
name resolution problems).

Why is it happening this?

Thanks,

M.G.

Hi

First thing I'd try in this scenario is disable any AV Software running
locally on the machine and test again.

Remove unecessary protocols, unless you are working with really old DOS
applications usually the only protocol needed is TCP/IP.

Removed this key from the machines:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace

Select this key:- (select the whole folder)

{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

and delete it.

When the PCs try to open My Computer then it takes more than 50 seconds to
show the user the unit drives.

A very common reason for this problem, is that there is a drive mapped
to a server or share that no longer exist.

Thanks everybody and specially Robert Roland, although I read this message
too late because I went to my customer site and I saw that it had old
network drives that it doesn't exist at the moment.

Anyway, I tried to replay the problem by sharing a folder on a PC called
(for example) PC1 and after creating a network drive on PC2 I removed that
PC from the network and however the PC2 could open quickly My Computer.

Well, anyway, the problem is already fixed!!

Thanks, M.G.
