Issues with Terminal Server

Jimmy

Hello,

I have a Windows 2000 Terminal server that was working in a
NT 4.0 domain. I upgraded the domain to Active Directory
and the Terminal Server remained a member server. After the
upgrade, I am having issues with the Terminal Server box.
Noone can login and I am getting the following error
message:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: TermServLicensing
Event Category: None
Event ID: 29
Date: 11/11/2003
Time: 2:43:33 PM
User: N/A
Computer: TERMSERVER
Description:
Terminal Services Licensing can only be run on Domain
Controllers or Server in a Workgroup. See Terminal Server
Licensing help topic for more information.

Can someone help me?

Thank you.

I got this same message recently when I upgraded to Active
Directory.

You probably have the Term Serv Licensing running on the
same system as terminal server. You will either need to
upgrade your system to an Active Directory domain
controller, or setup a license server on a different AD
domain controller.

I ran dcpromo.exe on my 2000 box to switch to active
directory, everything works great... but watch out for the
log on locally/deny log on locally policies, they may
prevent some users from connecting.

Hope this helps,
Big Dave

In an Active Directory environment your Licensing Server
must be on a Domain Controller. That wasn't the case in
NT4 Domains. I think you can use DCPROMO to make your
current Licensing Server a DC.
