Issues with standard CDRom drivers

Problem: I have a Imation CD-RW Burner, and I am having
problem writing to blank CD-R or CD-RW. I get following
message from the burner program: 'The media is not
writable media. Please insert a writable media"

I have used brand new CD-R or CD-RW and still get the
same message. Hardware manufacturer have tested the unit,
and it is fine. They are indicating that the standard
drivers on my Win2000 are corrupt, and I need to re-
install the Win2K again.

Is there anyway to replace the existing drivers without re-
installing win2K?

w2k doesn't have drivers for your cdburner, they should be
supplied by the burner maker for w2k.
However any corrupted files within w2k can be replaced by
the SFC utility just insert your install cd and go to
start run SFC /scannow

What CD writing software are you using? It could be incompatible with
Windows 2000 or XP. Older software will not work, I believe because of the
aspi32 layer problem in early software and W2K ( I can't really remember
exactly).

Have you checked the web site of your burning program for this and or
updates to the software? Windows sees a CD-RW drive as a CD-ROM. It is the
Burning Program such as Nero or Roxio, etc. that gives it the ability to
write. There are no CD-RW drivers in and of themselves. Aspi32.dll or sys
could be corrupt in your system and need to be replaced.
