isass.exec error 1073741819

I've carried out a complete reinstall of XP home. The
system unexpectedly shuts downwith
Windows/systems32/isass.exe status code 1073741819

On restart the message LSA shell (export version)
encountered a problem and needed to close.

isass.exe is version 5.1.2600.1106

On the microsoft support pages, this is Windows 2000 error
& the solution is that an upgrade is available. The
problem is, I'm not running 2k and my machine wont stay up
long enought to download the XP upgrades.

Any ideas how to overcome this ?
