Is this a lot to have running at one time?

I was wondering if these are a lot of processes to have running at one
time on my PC. I have a DELL laptop P4 with 256mb of RAM and a 1.7 gig
processor.

For a 256 Megabyte system, the answer is Yes. AOL is like the
Binary equivalent of the "Borg". It assimilates every PC it touches.
Between AOL & Real Audio they are responsible for the largest #
of your Startups & Watchdogs. QuickTime is also a relentless
Startup that comes back again & again. MusicMatch is another
that you can do without. The Synaptics touchpad control Watchdog
isn't necessary unless you need frequent adjustment of Touchpad.
Dell Media Experience is another likely unused and unwanted little
helper app.
If it (Laptop/Notebook) is like 99% of Dells, it came from the
factory with all manner of Add-on, Fluff & Stuff. I would probably
start with a session using Add/Remove and get rid of programs you
do not want or plan to use. If you don't use AOL (Hopefully) then
I would concentrate on ridding your PC of that first.

Oh.. did we have to be specific about some of the items in the list?.. it
doesn't matter how many times you tell people not to load this stuff, they
invariably do.. even using satellite TV running adds every 8 minutes, I
still don't think that message would get across..

She asked which ones, but yes it does get repetitive about the same
S&W's and the never-ending McAfee/Symantec postings. Which
lately have had a few comments about "US" harping on them. I guess
our opinions/experiences with them irritates the "Happy" users.
Somebody should create a little tool called "Crap Detector" that
just scans a PC and points out all the junk loaded on it.

I saw the original question as a 'yes/no type.. lol.. it's just that I have
as many processes running, but not including those that you pointed out, and
for reasons that you quite clearly stated to the OP..

In theory no, it's not a lot of processes. In practice, yes, the aol
trash can slow you down and is not needed ie aol is not needed. I'd
uninstall it and get a better, Way less expensive dialup isp. If you
want to keep your setup and continue to use aol then see if you can
invest in another 256 meg of ram.
