Is there a way to limit fax send speed?

Greetings,

I'm using standard WinXP Pro fax utility to send the occasional fax through
my AOpen FM56-PX internal fax-modem. (I have not yet developed a need to
upgrade to a more useful 3rd party fax system.) Unfortunately, the quality
of the phone lines in my area is not the best, so to send faxes
successfully I have to keep the send speed low. However, I have not found
a way to limit the send speed. I think there is a registry tweak
somewhere.

Suggestions?

Thanks
Paul

Did you check if your modem is certified from

Normally the protocol itself slows the speed and can manage poorer line
quality. There are no end user configurable way of changing fax speeds.

My modem is the AOpen FM56-PX, and box carries the WinXP/2000/ME
compatibility logo. The problem I've had for years and with various fax
modems on every MS OS from Win 3.1 to XP is my crummy phone line. I think
Bell strung barbed wire decades ago and has no interest in moving my
neighborhood into the 21st century. The way I've managed to get around
this with early versions of WinFax is to use an application setting
limiting the transmission speed. Sending a fax is slow, but it always gets
through. I assume WinFax sent some kind of init string to the modem prior
to establishing contact. I'd like to make the same adjustment with WinXP's
fax system. There must be a way...
