Is it possible to refill the HP 2000c printhead?

Hi,

I was just wondering if it is possible to refill the HP 2000c's
printhead? (As this printer has 4 printheads and 4 cartridges)

If so, does anyone know how to do so?

Thanks

I assume you mean you want to refill the cartridge, and not the
printhead??

I think there are kits out there. Be aware the 2000 is one of the few
HP's with chipped cartridges. The printer will still print while it's
"empty", but you won't know the ink level. The printer supposedly uses how
often the ink pump runs to truly tell when it runs out of ink.

Hi, (im the original poster but just on google, as I cant see the
slightly older posts on OE :( )

I did mean the printhead, as I was hoping it was the same method as
refilling the ink cartridge, as the printer print out seems to show a
level of ink that declines over time, is there in fact no ink in the
print head? or is that indicator mearly reflecting the useful life of
the print head?

Thanks

The 2000 series has separate printheads and ink cartridges. The
cartridges are mounted in the printer itself. Only the printheads and some
plastic tubes are on the moving carriage. The printheads do not contain
ink. A pump sucks ink from the cartridge, fills up the tube, and sends it
to the printhead.

I had one of those printers. The final straw was when I started changing
printheads and cartridges. Seems it needed a new head every three carts and
they were hard to find and needed to order them a couple of times when they
started to plug/fail the heads up from the diagnostics. The whole set ran
about $280.
I finally went and bought a Canon i960. Much, much better print quality and
was less than the HP2000 carts and heads. The HP2000 went into the
trashcan. Bloody expensive to maintain. Still have a HP960 and HP1220csi
as they take the same carts, but when they go it'll be buh-bye HP if they
don't get there printer maintenance costs down.

I have found the 2000c VERY cheap to maintain.

I bought all the printheads for about £5-8 new (just ran out of black
printheads :( )and as all the colours are divided into different
cartridges, you dont have to replace one whole cartridge when one colour
runs out!. Also the cartridges are huge in comparison to epson/canon, for
example the black cartridge is 68ml! and as they are so easy to refill, only
cost me about £2 !

In general, I like mine because of the huge ink capacity, as you
mention, Matt.

I got my first one when it was discarded from an office where my son
works. Got the second one from a Church Rummage sale (had to fix the
bongo pump spring holders). Got a quantity of printheads and cartridges
on Ebay.

Overall, it is a fussy printer. Tells me cartridges are empty when
they're not... tells me the cartridge cover is open when it is not. If
I were using it in an office I couldn't tolerate the nuisance, but at
home, where I like to fiddle with things, I just consider it a challenge
and fight back. I keep finding new ways to work around the 'safeguards'
that HP built into it.

The "bongo pump spring holders" problem sounds familiar, had to do the same
myself.

I dont have any of the problems you mention, but I do find it a bit annoying
that HP didnt bother to intergrate the ink status monitors into the XP
drivers :(
