I'm looking for a freeware IRC client. I would prefer a stand alone IRC
client. I don't need something that offers instant messaging and that sort
of stuff.

XChat for Windows/Linux: http://www.xchat.org . Is my favorite free IRC
client, but still not up to the level of mIRC, IMHO.

+1 for XChat. Lightweight, no bloat, simply IRC and nothing more.

I use xchat, but Hydrairc - www.hydrairc.com - is pretty good too.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I will try them all! I haven't
chatted in many years, but I figured I would give it a try. It used to be
fun.
