IR Printing Question

I work as an auto tech. One of the tools I use is a battery tester that has
IR print capabilities. The manufacturer of the tool (Midtronics Corp)
offers the HP 82240B portable thermal calculator printer as an option for
generating printouts of captured data for this tool. I don't have the
optional 82240B printer. I really don't want it because of the paper,
fragility, batteries, etc that are inherent in that printer type. What I DO
have is an HP LaserJet 2100 that has built in IR capabilities. I tried
using the LJ2100 to print data from the tool, but it doesn't work. The IR
function of the LJ2100 does work with my Sony Clie, so I know the printer
itself is working OK. I am thinking that the LJ 2100 speaks a different
'language' than the 82240 printer and is therefore incompatible with the
batttery tester and HP calculators.

Does anybody know if an HP calculator can print directly to an HP LJ2100
printer?

Is there any way to make the LJ 2100 understand the IR data transmitted from
my battery testing tool?

Alternatively, does anybody know if it is possible to hook up an IR receiver
to a PC, receive data from the tester, and print it through a software
application of some kind?

Any thoughts or knowledgeable feedback would be appreciated.

Yes. Some web searching turned up that the 82240B speaks "Redeye",
while the LJ2100 uses the newer IrDA.

Directly? Probably not.

I found some information that the newer HP calculators may be able to
speak IrDA. However, you probably can't get at the settings of the
embedded calculator in the tester to change it to that mode.

This *might* do it:

The files included fail to mention exactly what it does.
