iPaq rx1950 won't sync with Vista

Hello everyone,

Let me start by saying that I am not that techie, so I may need to be
hand-held to get thru this.

I have an iPaq rx1950 Pocket PC running Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 OS
5.1.1702 (Build 14367.1.0.2). Under Windows Xp, it ran Active Sync whatever
and worked just fine. Now after upgrading to Windows Vista, I am the proud
owner of a flashy paperweight.

HP Tech support does nothing as they say they don’t recognize Vista, so
after following their instructions to wipe the iPaq and try starting over, I
have the paperweight.

I really don’t feel like paying $60 to talk to a Microsoft tech, since they
should be free for this sort of thing since it’s their product that doesn’t
work.

I tried installing Mobile Device Centre 6 for Windows Vista, Acitve Sync 4.2
and nothing. Frakking toasters.

So, short of launching my Pocket PC against the wall, how do I get it fixed?
When I start the voodoo ritual to purge the evil spirits which block my data
from syncing, does it matter what color the chicken is? Do I have to wait for
a sunspot that looks like Elvis? Do I have to wait for the Don and Rosie to
kiss and make up while holding hands and singing Zippy-Do-Dah while prancing
half naked down the streets of New York?

You would think that Windows would work with Windows, but I guess I got the
wrong glass installed or something.

Thanks.

Fantastic! Anyone want to buy a paperweight? It plays solitair now... Three
cheers for Microsoft! As I see it now, I can either uninstall VIsta to make
my Pocket PC work again with Xp, or I can go out and buy a new Pocket PC
which maybe will work with Vista.

Thank the Gods of Kobol that I ran the Vista advisor tool and it said
everything was hunky-dorey.

I mean really, I could understand if I had bought a Mac based product,
programmed with Linux trying to run with a Vista based machine on an old
Commodore 64, but this is WINDOWS ppc running with WINDOWS computer so in my
little mind the two thigs should work.

What the frak? So now I can feel free to chuck my fancy pocket pc and go buy
a paper calander because the two WINDOWS products won't work together? Hey
Bill, et al, why not make two Windows products work together? I think that
today I am going to go to my job and work as well as Microsoft and HP does.
"What, your innocent? Sure thing, head on out the doors over there citizen.
The sun spot looks like Elvis so it must be true."

Microsoft sucks. Make your damn products work together.

OOps..

Be careful with the new ppc idea.. I have WM 5.0 ppc and it will not
sync with my clean install of Ultimate and WMDC...

You are beginning to feel like MS created a POS with Vista (Cancel) or
(Allow)?

Yeah, it just boggles my mind. I bought this ppc 10 months ago and it is
frakking useless now. Seriously, I cannot understand how a Windows product
won't work with another Windows product. Vista is cute and all, but this
whole "ultimate experience" thing and "makes everything work together
perfectly" thing is crud.

Techie folk, grab your pixie dust, sprinkle the holy water, work your magic
and make the things work. Too bad you can't sue for breach of contract when
you buy these things and they don't work the way they are supposed too. I
guess I should just be happy these folks don't build things like buildings or
bridges because their track records on "new and improved" products is leaving
a little to be desired.
