iomdisk.sys...I know...I know

Brad

I have what seems to be a semi-common problem with a
couple of nasty twists. First the common problem: when xp
boots it will get to the splash screen and reset itself.
When I boot in safe mode it will stop at the iomdisk.sys
because I have a damn Iomega DVD burner installed. Now
for the nasty twist: I try to use the recovery console
from booting the XP cd. It says that it can't find XP and
that C:\ doesn't seem to have any partitions, please hit
F3 to reboot. I think this is because I have it set up as
RAID-0 across two HDs? Isn't there a way to load XP one
driver at a time and skip the ones that seem to be
causing problems? My wife has threatened divorce if I
lose the pictures from our last vacation that I just took
off the camera. Am I screwed or what? BTW, I already
flashed the BIOS successfully and that did nothing to
help.

Hi,

I had the same exact problem, and after much effort, I discovered it to
be a bad hard drive, and nothing to do with iomdisk.sys.

So, beware, and make sure you first copy your entire hard drive to a
known-good-drive (Ghost is great for this, it will attempt to copy even
after encountering bad sectors).

Anyways, wanted to point this out, because at least in two separate
cases I know about now, iomdisk.sys was not the culprit - rather a
drive going bad (sectors falling out).
