Internet sharing/firewall with WinXP Pro

Anyone have any pointers on how to set up a Windows XP Pro SP2 computer as a
NAT firewall/Internet sharing PC?

I have broadband internet. I want to connect the PC directly to the modem
and then connect the rest of my PC's to a second network card in the PC. I
want to surf/email/etc on all the PC's through the first PC.

I plan on using the XP firewall to keep external probes/hacks off of my
network.

Suggestions? Links?

Thanks!

Well you can use ICS AKA Internet Connection Sharing if you want to do
this, but everyone will tell you that it is a bad idea & that you should
buy a router. Routers are cheap now. They offer you a layer of
protection. You don't have to have the host computer on for the
Internet Connection to work.

IF you do use ICS make sure you don't create a network bridge. This
means if you run the network wizard on that computer you need to uncheck
the option when it offers you to bridge the connection. There are
several reasons for this. You don't have a firewall or NAT protecting
the other computers. Also it is known to cause problems because ICS &
the bridge are trying to do something very similar.

Cheap routers aren't perfect though. Currently my internet connection chokes
when a run certain software. It doesn't transfer much data, but it opens a
lot of connections and is very bursty. I've tried a few routers and they all
bog down.

I'm hoping that by using ICS that this issue is handled by the gateway PC.

Definately something I'll watch out for.

Um, that's because Windows XP SP2 limits your outgoing connections. I
highly doubt the problems will go away as I'm betting they are software
issues & not the router.

Unless you hack this "fix" out of SP2.

How it's hard coded into the DLL's?

In Network Connections, right-click the connection that you want to
share, click Properties | Advanced, and enable Internet Connection
Sharing.
