internet sharing connection icon

I have recently installed xp SP2 and among the lastest quirks is that my ics
icon is not showing any more in the tasbar on the "client1" computer. It
shows fine on the host and another "client2" computer not yet updated with
sp2. On the subject "client1" computer the icon was there for a couple of
weeks after installing sp2 but now it is gone and I cannot control the
connection from "client1". The subject computer does connect to the internet
fine. Any Ideas? I have double checked the host computer and on the
"client2" I can control the internet connection just fine.

In Control Panel | Security Center | Windows Firewall:

1. Make sure that "Don't allow exceptions" is un-checked.
2. Click Exceptions.
3. Put a check mark in the box for "UPnP Framework".

If you use a different firewall, make the equivalent settings in it.

That should make an Internet Gateway connection appear in the Network
Connections folder. In that connection's properties, check "Show icon
in notification area when connected".

I did the steps you suggested but it didn't help, so I went through the
network wizard again and I got it to partially work. If I boot the client1
computer and the host was connected to the internet the icon shows on client1
and I can disconnect the connection from client1. However this is the only
time it works. If I go to the connection on client1 sometimes it shows up
and other times it is gone. When it does show up it says it is disconnected
(client1) even though it is.
