internet problem

I have tried all the troubleshooting that I could find
but nothing seems to be working. I can dial up but after
I dial up I can't connect to any websites and none of my
messengers such as AIM, MSN, or Yahoo will work. I did
get online once successfully and I could go on websites.
However I haven't been able to get up. My modem dials up
and everything. It's as if something is blocking it.
Could it be spyware or a virus? Thanks so much.

have you checked your security settings for your browser?
and also have you checked the connection settings for the
dial-up that you are using
