internet icon doesn't respond

my desktop icon for IE doesn't respond and open up the internet. i can go to
start and select the internet from there and it opens. i have tried
refreshing the desktop, running spyware and registry cleaners, but the
problem persist. i am running windows xp and IE6. if i right click and
select open, it still doesn't open and i have tried moving the icon around on
the desktop. any help is appreciated.

think i fixed it. went to program files/internet explorer/iexplore.exe and
right clicked to add a shortcut them moved the new shortcut to the desktop.
seems to be working. deleted the shortcut that didn't respond. hopes this
helps someone else.

Use right-click Properties to find out what it is that you are trying to open.
