Using IE6 running in XP. All went fine until Microsoft's recent updates. I
tried to instal IE7 - but it didn't work and in any event tried to instal
onto an external drive (gave me no option). So I revert to IE6. Constant
error messages - the usual "IE has experienced a problem and needs to
close........" Usually takes 6-8 attempts before it will actually star.
Anyone any idea of how this can be corrected - or should I go to
Netscape/Firefox ??? TIA rOCK

Hi rOCK,

Netscape or FF wouldn't be a bad recommendation, and I would recommend
both, as both are based on the same source code.

But with the IE issue. I have heard various fixes. One that you clear
the cache and set your home page to about:blank, reboot and then set
your page back. Another one is to clear the cache, then reinstall patch
KB942615, and get the hotfix here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942367, install both and reboot. The
hotfix took a day to get from MS, and you have to unzip it within 7 days
with the password you're given.

Write back if either of those don't work.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
