Internet explorer

I am currently running internet explorer on windows xp. I have installed
numerous programs that require access to the internet (i.e., turbotax,
windows updates) to name a few. When I attempt to execute the programs, I
continually get error messages stating " having problems finding internet
connection". I've tried tweaking the internet options (almost everything I
think) but nothing seems to work. I"ve contacted MS who directed me to my ISP
provider(bellsouth) who pawned me off to Sony who...well ! .You get the
picture. Let me also add that this computer I'm having the problems on
utilizes a wireless adapter which is in sync with my primary computer. The
internet works great! I just can't seem to get the other applications to
work. Is there a cure that someone else may have???

When programs are installed that need access to the internet the windows
firewall may block them and you may have go into the firewalls exceptions and
allow these programs to access the internet.

Click control panel, click firewall then click the exceptions tab, put a
tick next to the programs that you want to allow internet access.

Thats if you are using the Windows firewall, if you are using another
firewall then that will probably also have a similar area where you can allow
internet access to certain programs only.

Hope that helps ?

Have you ever been able to access the internet, using any application, when
connected wirelessly?

If you remove wireless from the equation and connect directly to the modem,
does the problem persist?

Andy, the only problem I have with your suggestion is that the computer I'm
having problems with runs on windows xp with sp1. I attempted to update with
sp2 but ran into this connection problem. However, I do have norton firewall
protection that has already been disabled. Is there firewall
protection/security within windows xp with sp1 I am not aware of? I don't
recognize anything in the control panel. Nonetheless, I do appreciate your
response.

PA Bear, the answer to your first question is no...I have been getting the
same error when I use all the apps requiring access to the internet.

Answer to second question. I am currently using Bellsouth DSL which my
primary computer is connected to the router and plugged into the phone jack.
The computer with the problem has the wireless adapter. If I remove the
adapter and plug directly into another modem, I will have to set up as an
individual connection which equates to double the price of one.... I truely
believe it's a configuration problem or some sort of security feature - I'm
not aware of - that's causing my headaches. However, I remain positive that I
will correct whatever the problem is; just going to need a little help.
Thanks for the response...
