Internet Explorer times out after minutes of browsing

Dave

I have the following issue with internet explorer... I
will try to be as brief as possible:

Two days ago, I went to the Microsoft Update website and
installed a 3 critical updates.

After installing the first, I was asked to restart, but I
said no and installed the next, and so forth until all
three were installed. Upon completing the install of the
third critical update, I received an error and the
computer locked up... (The three updates I installed in
this order are: Windows Security Update, An update for
Windows Media Player 9, and a Net1.1 update)

I turned the computer off manually, and then back on...
then halfway through the boot-up process, I received the
following error:

"Windows Security Protection Error"... (or somethign to
this effect - Black DOS Screen)

Everytime I rebooted I kept getting the same error until I
went to safe mode and messed around with the config and
autoexec files. Problem fixed right? --- Wrong!!!

Now, my internet browser is not working. I show that I
have a connection via my ADSL modem, but my browser times
out after about five minutes of browsing. IE works fine
for the first few minutes of browsing, but after a while,
it just times out if I try to go on to another web site.

If I try to uninstall or reinstall IE, I get a message
that says, "... there is another installation pending of
IE, and a reboot is required."

I am unable to restore or reinstall IE, which I am
thinking can be the way to fix the problem.

Can someone please help or point me in the right direction
to fix this problem?

Thanks!
