Internet Explorer recently got VERy slow!!

My internet explorer recently got VERY slow. When I click on it, I
now get a blank internet explorer screen and then it waits 30-40
seconds before displaying a page.

I'm using a cable modem so my network speed should be good... plus I'm
getting good speed on email... transfer and receive.

Any ideas?

Austin, what OS are you running. If it is NT based, go into Task
Manager and see what CPU time IExplore.exe is using. I have seen in
the last couple of days some of the machines I support where the
IExplore.exe is now just taking up between 90 to 100 % of CPU time.

I still don't know how to fix it, but let me know if you have come up
with something.

For these sorts of problems, the first thing to do is Standard Windows
Operating Procedure (SWOP):

1) Scan with current antivirus ("current" means a version not later than
2002 but using updated virus definitions); 2) remove spyware with
Spybot Search & Destroy (www.security.kolla.de) and Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftusa.com) - note that it is a good idea to do virus/spyware
scans in Safe Mode; 3) delete temporary and Temporary Internet Files;
4) stop unnecessary services/programs from starting with Windows - see
www.blackviper.com for services info and www.pacs-portal.co.uk
startup_index.htm for programs info - 5) look in Event Viewer for
clues.
