Internet Explorer - No Internet Connection available

R

Roberto

Ever since installing the two latest security fixes, I
have been unable to access the internet directly by going
to Internet Explorer. When I try, I get a message
saying "No connection to the Internet is currently
available. To view internet content that has been saved on
your computer, click Work Offline. Click Try Again to
attempt to connect".
Neither of those choices will get me a connection. My work
around is to connect to the internet first (via Control
Panel) and the click on my desktop Internet Explorer icon.
Is anyone else having this problem? Any one have a better
way to solve it?

This problem is affecting several users in this group.
There are now 7 posts from 7 different people since
1.51pm Feb13, myself included, who have the same
symptoms. I have run up to date anti-virus, spybot and
adaware all in safe mode and restarted the computer with
no success. Also I did install the latest automatic
updates before the problem appeared. I have resorted to
restoring the system to a restore point on Feb 12 and
this appears to working so far.
Would be nice to know what the problem is tho

I guess it's nice to know I have company. I'm back to
where you are. When I installed the patches, there were
two. One was a Windows patch (the big one) and the other a
smaller patch to Internet Explorer. Do you know which one
is causing the grief?

hey. found the solution. culprit: google toolbar.

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=...&scoring=d&q=No+Internet+Connection+available

I found the solution to my problem. It was only a coincidence that I
installed the latest IE updates at the time the problem appeared. I
use the
Google Toolbar and on that same day it automatically downloaded a
valentine
promo to skin the toolbar with a valtine scheme. By disabling that
promo,
and putting the toolbar back into its normal state, IE now connects
correctly. I disabled the promo by simply renaming
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\NavClient\1.1\Promo to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\NavClient\1.1\BadPromo
By doing that, the toolbar doesn't see the valentine mess and all
works
fine.

You'll also notice that it does this per profile. I believe this is
why some
people are changing to a different profile and having IE work fine,
only to
mess up again since the toolbar installs that scheme for the new
profile

Hope it is of some to others.

I had the same problem - group search leads to a problem with the
valentine skinning of the googletoolbar. In may case, an uninstall of
the toolbar fixed the problem.

i *did* reinstall it after...

see if that works?
