"Internet Explorer Has Encountered A Problem and Needs To Close"

Samantha \(Sammi\)

Can someone please help me with this message I keep
receiving with Internet Explorer 6. The message reads as
follows:

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the
information you were working on might be lost.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem. WE have
created an error report that you can send to the help us
improve Internet Explorer. We will treat this report as
confidential and anonymous.

To see what data this error report contains "Click
Here"

"Send Error Report" Don't Send"

Then it starts sending data to the server and then it
says it's checking for status of this problem, then it
says error reporting completed, then gives you a "Close"
icon to click on. Except whenever you click on the close
icon it will shut down Internet Explorer and I have to
restart the program again only to get this same problem
error message. Is there anything I can do to fix this
problem and if so what and how can I fix it? I have
already went and downloaded Internet Explorer 6 on the
Internet Explorer Website but this didn't seem to help at
all. By the way I am using Windows XP Professional, I
upgraded from Windows ME a long time ago and when I first
upgraded I did not have this problem.

I will be most grateful to anyone who can offer me any
assistance. Please feel free to send me an email to my
email address that I provided at the top of my post.
Thank you.

With XP Pro, I had exactly that problem, ofetn.
I unistalled Internet Explorer and reinstalled it, problem still there. Updates, spware, antivirus, disk checking .... nothing helped.
I gave up and reformatted, problem gone.

I have IE6 and W98SE and am meeting the same problem. The module referred
to in the error report is Msvcrt.dll

Have you tried that?

Capture the Error Signature it shows you
by dragging over its text with your mouse and pressing Ctrl-c
Then paste it in a reply.

The most likely answer is that you have interfering third-party programs
which are causing these crashes. The simplest solution is to use the
scanning tools that you will see suggested in this newsgroup to many
others who are having similar or related symtoms.

Here is what seems to have worked for me! I offer it as a non guaranteed
solution. If there are problems with it would the experts please let me
know.

I used System File Checker to extract a new msvcrt.dll. From memory it came
from cab 55 or thereabouts. Then when I went back onto the internet Zapro
identified that IE6 was trying to update msvcrt.dll presumably to the latest
version. This I permitted and my problem seems to have been solved.

At the same time i had a problem with outlook express not starting because
MSOE.DLL could not be loaded. I don't know whether it is linked. I solved
that problem by uninstalling OE6. This automatically put me back to OE5
which is working ok so far. I now have the option to upgrade again to OE6
via windows update.

Hope this helps for some people.
