What i've found is that this forum takes about 15 minutes to load a page
regardless. Also Ebay plays up half the time but is sometimes ok. doesn't
appear to make any difference regardless of add ons. I have used a different
browser to get on this site and that was no better. I am thinking there may
be a need to re -install windows unless there is some other easier way?
I have listed some details about my system and scans i have done. Thanks.
1. XP (home)SP2
2. Dell Dimension 3000 about 2 years old. Desktop.
Amount of memory (RAM) 1024. 160GB Hard Disk.
Standalone
Regular spy ware checked. By AVG spyware and Ad Aware, as well as Spybot and
Spyware- Blaster which both run in background.
AVG virus protection and Zone Alarm Firewall. Both freeware.
Talk Talk Broadband. 2MB. dsl modem.
Start by insuring the computer is clean. I'm not convinced it is.
Go through these general malware removal steps systematically -

Include scanning with David Lipman's Multi_AV and follow instructions to
do all scans in Safe Mode. Please see the special Notes regarding using
Multi_AV in Vista.

http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/sicherheit/35905/multi_av_scanning_tool.html
- download site
The site is in German but David's tool is in English so don't let that
worry you. Scroll all the way down to almost the bottom of the page and
you'll see a box titled "Infos Zum Download - Multi-AV Scanning Tool".
You'll see "Download von www pctipp.ch" and the live link to download
Multi_AV.
And think about the answer to The First Question Of Troubleshooting:
what changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?
Look in Event Viewer for clues: Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]
If the computer is truly virus/malware-free (and I would do the formal
scanning as above to be sure and not just make assumptions), try the
computer in a clean boot and see if that makes a difference. If it does,
start your troubleshooting there to see which program or process is
causing the slowness.
