Internet Explorer error messages

I have been getting error messages running Internet Explorer & it has hung
up causing me to reboot.

I am running XP Home addition version 2002 Service Pack 1

The below shows the error messages I have been getting.

They are as follows:

Message#1: Server Busy This action cannot be completed because the
"about.blank" Microsoft Internet Explorer" program is not responding. Choose
"Switch To" and correct the problem.

The buttons do nothing.

Message#2: Server Busy This action cannot be completed because the other
program is busy. Choose "Switch To" and correct the problem.

The buttons do nothing.

When I go to reboot, I get the message

Message #3: End Program Iexplorer.exe "If you choose to end the program
immediately, you will lose any unsaved data. To end the program now, click
End Now.

I have a cable modem with Comcast.net. I have contacted them. They had me
run "SFC /scannow". The problem goes away for a while, sometimes most of the
day, but it always returns.

Also, I get a lot of popups, even if I am not running Internet Explorer.
This has not ever occurred before.

I checked for virus with no results (Norton Antivirus 2003). I defragmented
my hard drive. Problem still exists. I checked for all the Windows updates,
there are no critical updates I have not already loaded.

I called Microsoft support (800-936-3500). They gave me case #. I could not
get through again after a long wait. I do have a stand-alone Internet
Explorer 6 disk, but didn't want to try any reinstall without discussing it
first.

I ran in XP Network Diagnostics. The Network Adapter test failed with the
following message:

(00000007) Intel( R ) PRO/100 VE Network Connection

It past the test for Outlook Express Mail. I do not have a problem with
Email.

What can I do to resolve this problem
