internet explorer error message

Help! When I go on the internet I get an error message
stating that Internet Explorer has encountered a problem
and needs to close. I've re-installed Windows XP
thinking that I had a damaged file, but that hasn't
helped. Can you?

do the following
The ability to Repair Internet Explorer does not exist in the version that
ships with Windows XP. This feature only becomes available after you
upgrade to a newer version. This is normal and has been this way since
Windows 98 and IE4.

However, you can reinstall IE in Windows XP by clicking Start, Run and
entering the following command:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\Inf\ie.inf

You will need to have your XP CD available.

I had the same problem some years ago and it turned out to be spyware.
It floored Netscape as well, so they were obviously using the same
routines.

Get some spyware detector software (adaware, spybot. cwshredder), from
a friend if you cannot get online.

Also if you are in the UK, the tiscali CD in lots of magazines has
IE6, and you can just install that again, to see if it ovewrites the
files. It is also a lot quicker that installing windows again. :)

Please remove obvious from email address if emailing.
