Internet Explorer browser does not appear but is running

i have a problem. i double click on the icon on the desktop or the folder in the program files and internet explorer does not appear/open. i tried netscape navigator and that too does not appear/open.

but when i press ctrl alt del it shows that iexplorer is running.

i can connect to the internet and even check email on outlook express but cannot get any web browser to work. when i re-installed internet explorer 6 and restarted the computer there was an error message mentioning something about the "registry".

what is the problem and what are the solutions??

I am having the same problem. With a twist. I have two
users on windows xp. I can access internet explorer when I
log onto my wife's desktop, but I cannot access it when I
am logged onto my own. On my own desktop I am having the
same problems as the previous message.

Hi,
This is probably being caused by third party programs- malware/parasites.

From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third party
browser extensions." That might allow IE to work.
You should re-enable browser extensions after the cleanup.

You might also be able to browse and download programs from the address bar
of Windows Explorer.

Then, work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
