Internet Explorer 7 navcancl

Hi All

Yesterday I my internet explorer 7 did something different, when I open IE7
the first page automaticall closed and a dialog box opened asking me what to
do. Save or Cancel. It referenced navcancl. I canceled not wishing to trash
the system furtheer than it might already be.

I have Googled and found information on Secunia and they reference this
page.

http://aviv.raffon.net/2007/03/14/PhishingUsingIE7LocalResourceVulnerability.aspx

They say not to refresh a navigation cancelled page.

Thing is do I save the original file so I can use IE7 I am always worried
about clicking save on a task I did not initiate in the first place.
Or....... does anyone have information that might help me make the right
decission.

Thanks in advance

Dave

No. The problem is caused by a Windows update...KB931768. The simple
solution is to remove the update until MS can get their act together.

Problem solved!

I've solved this problem by restoring the temporary internet files folder
the default folder. I changed the TIF folder for some reasons, but now I
have to chage it back to solve this problem. The default folder in Vista
should be like:
C:\Users\%YOUR_USER_NAME%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet
Files

In my case, I don't need to chage the phishing filter any more. Everything
is working just fine!

As I said elsewhere, it is a workaround, not a solution. The probem is
still there. It is a broken security update. If, as you have
suggested, the problem goes away if you revert to the default location
for temporary internet files, then the update is clearly broken, and is
still a problem. The only true solution is to either remove the problem
or wait until MS fixes the damned thing.

I agree with you. It is a workaround and the bug is still there. But since
this update is critical, I think it will be better to apply it, other than
uninstall it. Otherwise we have to take the risk of security compromises.
Still there is a choice for users to determine if they want to install it or
not. Anyway Microsoft has the responsibility to repaire it ASAP.

Good luck.

Thank you for the information. I had to uninstall the update, now all works
OK again. I'll wait for microsoft to work it out.
