Internet Explorer 7 Icon.

Dave

Hi again folks,

When I initially installed Vista Ultimate I was able to put the Internet
Explorer 7 icon on my Desktop, not as a shortcut, but as the actual
application where you can right click on it & adjust the properties.

Since re-installing Vista, all I can get is a shortcut that I drag from the
Start Menu.

Does anyone know how to get the "proper" icon on my Desktop?

Thanks,

Dave.

The IE icon only appeared in the Beta and Release Candidate builds.

To add the IE icon to your desktop, add the following reg key:

_____________________________________________________
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]
"{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000

_____________________________________________________

You can also just double click the attached reg file. You should view it
first to see that it is not malicious.

I also posted a small app for the removal of the shortcut arrow overlay in
your other question thread

Here is the.reg file that will put the actual IE shortcut on your desktop.

Hi Dave,

You can restore the icon using a registry edit. See:

Where is the Internet Explorer desktop icon in Windows Vista?:
http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/108/1/

Look for the file "show-ie-icon.reg" in the Attachments section of that page.
