Internet Explorer 6 not caching

IE 6 is not caching any visited pages to the "temporary internet files" folder. I am currently patched for Windows XP (home) and IE6. In "Internet Options" I have Clear History set at 5 days, and the "temporary internet files" "setting..." is on "Automatically" with 2GB of disk space. I can open the same page repeatedly during the same browser session and each time it slowly loads the page from scratch. How can I re-activate page caching?

Hi "joe1965" :)
..
IE 6 is not caching any visited pages to the "temporary internet files"
folder. I am currently patched for Windows XP (home) and IE6. In "Internet
Options" I have Clear History set at 5 days, and the "temporary internet
files" "setting..." is on "Automatically" with 2GB of disk space. I can
open the same page repeatedly during the same browser session and each time
it slowly loads the page from scratch. How can I re-activate page caching?

Try the following and see if it helps.

In order to enable the Autocomplete, do the following:

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Click the Content tab. Click the button
that says Autocomplete. Check Web Addresses and all other items you want
used with Autocomplete. Click OK

On the General tab look for the section on History. Set the Day to keep
pages in history to how many days you want to keep pages in the History.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. It didn't help. The "Web Addresses" is
already selected in Autocomplete, and History is set to 5 days
already. I did some more fiddling and was able to get the pages to
cache images etc. to the Temporary Internet Files folder, but they
were immediately deleted as soon as I closed IE6. I looked under the
Advanced tab/Security of Internet Options to make sure that the box
is unchecked for "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser
is close." Where else would IE6 or XP control this feature? I can
have my Temporary Internet Files folder open and watch the files
disappear as soon as I quit IE6.

IE not keeping my History

Turn off the ActiveX part of McAfee's Internet Filter

or........................
If you have McAfee AV running:

History - Not Being Saved

McAfee gave this solution to the bug where VirusScan 6 stops your Internet
Explorer History file working. Hope it is of some help:

Open VirusScan console
Select "Pick a task..."
Select "Change my VirusScan settings"
Select "Configure VShield background scanning"
Select "Customise your VShield settings"

Select the "Internet Filter" icon from the icons down the left hand side On
the "Detection" tab, in the 'Applet filters' section, remove the tick next
to "ActiveX Controls".

or

Run regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Software|Microsoft|Internet Explorer|Main

and insure that Save_Session_History_On_Exit is marked YES and not NO. (I
just checked mine, and it is set to NO by default).

Also try slipping down to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Software|Microsoft|Internet Explorer|TypedURLs

or.............

It could be that they History folder has become damaged or corrupted, try
deleting the folder, then reboot and a new one will be created.

Hope this helps.
