|Hi Don,
|I will try to uninstall the weather Bug application and clean up all traces
|left behind and run a system File Checker again then Defrag in Safe Mode.
|Also try to Disable Non-Verified Add-Ons on your browser and see if the
|issue will resolve then you can Renable them one-by-one and see the culprit,
|it more likely from your description it is a Add-ons for application causing
|this issue.
|Also try to perform a clean Boot that will show you clearly which line is
|the culprit in your case.
|I have seen it before the weather bug can cause some issue, for some reason,
|a corrupted application or an outdated version or horked installation for it.
|HTH.

Thnx again Nass. I guess I wasn't clear in my "results" remarks: I
did do everything you mentioned in your 1st message and thus your 2nd
set of suggestions had already been done. Further, I use a program
(freeware) called Weather Watcher from SingerCreations.com. I've used
this program for several years now and it has never caused any
problems. It has only been since I installed XP on this particular
machine with these particular controllers that I've experienced this
"internet connection" problem. That's why I'm somewhat stumped.
So to review, all non-verified Add-ons were disabled, system disk
"cleaned" and defragged, winsock 'repaired', etc. I will uninstall
Weather Watcher to make absolutely sure that it's not causing the
problem. In fact I may just start uninstalling everything that could
even remotely affect the internet connection to see what happens.
Again, many thanks for your kind suggestions.
