internet connection sharing

Ive got a small home network that I want to set up Internet Connection
Sharing on. However, when I hit the OK button (Enable internet connection
bla bla bla) I get a message about the address being changed to 198.162.0.1.
The problem Im having with this is that Ive got my address, subnet, and
gateway hardcoded to specific settings so I can connect to my work via VPN.
Is there a way to use ICS without this change happening?

TIA, Chris

ICS requires that the computer sharing the connection have a lan IP of
192.168.0.1. You can add a second NIC to your machine and set that NIC up
for ICS, however.

I thought about this after posting my question. My box has 2 nics already. 1
to the other computer and 2 goes goes to the internet. Initially I was
attempting to set up ICS to nic 2, thinking that the internet connection is
what should be shared. But is this correct? Im starting to think not. Im
afraid of attempting it because if Im wrong I'll lose connectivity to the
other computer.

Share using nic1 (the internal one). ICS should set up proper routing
between nics 1 and 2.

You will need to share the NIC with the Internet connection (NIC 2). The IP
address scheme for ICS cannot be changed. Is the host you are trying to set
up ICS on a 2000 Server or a 2000 Pro box? If it is a server you can use
RRAS and NAT and set up any IP address scheme that you want.
