Internet connection sharing doesn't work

T

Tim

I have 2 node network, sharing a Creative modem blaster
external. The locl system can connect and surf. The remote
can connect, ping a site, do a tracert, but can't browse
to a site using the http:// format. If I enter the ip
address, I can usually get to where I want to go. I'm
pretty sure it's a dns problem ( duh!) but I've tried
everything I can think of, including ipconfig/flushdns on
the local system, seting the isp dns in the remote nic ip
properties, setting it on the local nic, and several other
crazy things.

This one has me stumped. Can ANYONE help? BTW, it's a
fresh install of xp pro.

Hi Tim,
if I understand you right, you can ping a domain (www.google.com) ?
What happens if you use a command in CMD:
telnet www.microsoft.com 80

After the screen should go black and you write:
GET / <enter>

GET must be in INITIALS!!
You should get back the source code.

Did you try downloading Opera and try surfing with it
(http://www.opera.com - http://193.69.116.16) ? (Just to get an idea if the
problem is IE or the network in general)
If you have used Ad-Aware lately, there was a problem with a Trojan New.Net.
You can read the removal instructions at the following web site:
http://www.newdotnet.com
If you are on the effected computer use:
http://66.151.57.202/

Did you try looking for Trojans, Viruses....

Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com (http://66.35.253.32/)

Try running
Spybot - http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html
Ad-Aware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
CWShredder - http://209.133.47.12/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe
